PRO FOOTBALL — November 20
SEATTLE at ST. LOUIS
(Prop Bets Line: Rams-3, Total 39.5) — Not that the Seahawks have really come alive, but Seattle has covered three straight road games, and for this team that has often been characterized as a “road worrier,” that is a good sign. We have said all along that this is a team with talent, and if Tarvaris Jackson (9 INT’s) can cut down on turnovers just a little bit, the ‘Hawks would be more dangerous.
Steven Jackson is the heart and soul of the St. Louis offense, and he has gained 417 yards over the last three games, but Seattle has done a job against opposition running attacks that has been more than credible (3.6 ypc allowed). by comparison, the Rams have been awful against the run (yielding 5.1 ypc). St. Louis is laying three points, but has scored more than 16 only once. There’s a lot of offensive line shuffling, and San Bradford has just four TD passes and 26 sacks,.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — October 15
BYU at OREGON STATE
(Prop Bets Line: Oregon State -3, Total 51) — Riley Nelson has perked up the BYU offense after being named the starting quarterback. Last week he threw three touchdown passes, and he also showed some legs (65 yards on ground). The Cougars put a nice “running back-by-committee” thing together against San Jose State (159 yards without Nelson’s efforts). and they really did show some chops on the road with the one-point win over SEC entry Ole Miss and the one-point loss to Texas.
However, Bronco Mendenhall is surely pulling his hair out of his head over his team’s inability to get a pass rush going, and we’ve seen the ball in OSU QB Sean Mannion’s hands a lot more lately (try 147 passing attempts the last three weeks). Of course, one reason for that is that Mike Riley’s team can’t get any rushing game of its own going, and Mannion has put the ball into enemy hands six times in the last two games.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — September 24
FLORIDA STATE at CLEMSON
(Line: Clemson -2.5, Total 50) — Both teams are coming off very big non-conference games, although the difference is that while FSU failed against Oklahoma, Clemson came back from a two-touchdown deficit to end Auburn’s 17-game winning streak. That was naturally treated as a big deal, so the question has to come up as to whether they can get themselves back to where they need to be emotionally. The Seminoles just don’t have the necessary ground component to win the ACC, and E.J. Manuel injured his shoulder, making prop bets difficult. Clint Trickett is more of a drop-back type, and he was 7-for-15 with an interception against the Sooners. Clemson is better off under center, as Tajh Boyd, a highly-touted recruit a couple of years ago, is looking the part, with 30-42 and four TD’s against Auburn last weekend. If they are going to be without their starting quarterback, FSU can’t afford to be one-dimensional.
